The St Peter Port Anchorage

Rendered landscape model, looking south-west over Guernsey. The rocky islet in the foreground became the site of Castle Cornet. The islet and surrounding reefs protected the anchorage and landing place.

The tidal range is such that areas of sandy beach were exposed at low water, on either side of the rocks connecting the islet with the main island.

Fresh water was available from streams coming down the valleys at the head of the inlet.
