| The harbour of St Peter Port was substantially
enlarged and remodelled during the second half of the nineteenth century.
Until that time Castle Cornet was isolated on a small offshore islet and had
commanded the approach to the town since the twelfth century. The site of
the early harbour has been obliterated by the nineteenth century quayside
and later marina developments, in the centre foreground of the photograph. The aerial photograph was taken by local photographer Brian Green, and shows a particularly high tide. |
